Jan Olmstead, MPA

American Indian Health Commission for Washington State

Jan Ward Olmstead (Barbareno, Chumash) is a private consultant, serving as the public health policy and project advisor to the American Indian Health Commission for Washington State. She brings an understanding of evidence-based public health from working with tribal communities and urban Indian communities and over 35 years’ experience in health policy in tribal and intergovernmental affairs. Jan is a certified master trainer in Neuroscience, Epigenetics, Adverse Childhood Experience and Resilience (NEAR). Based on a Native perspective and understanding of the impacts of historical trauma, Jan’s focus is on raising awareness of the core strengths and resilience within tribal and Native communities that have existed and sustained people for generations. Jan serves on multiple boards, including the Group Health Foundation, Washington State Public Health Association, Wishtoyo Chumash Foundation, and the Governor’s Interagency on Health Disparities.
